In the past few days, I’ve heard so many disheartening stories of people showing their worst (like fighting over toilet paper at Costco). I’ve also heard uplifting, inspiring stories of people reaching out to help others, like a young couple who are running errands for their elderly neighbors who have no family nearby. 

The word Buddha means The Awakened One, coming from the Sanskrit root budh – ‘to wake’.

The Buddha spoke of the three fires in one of his talks.

The beauty of Buddhism lies in its simple teachings and values of independent effort and learning. We can build these teachings down even further – ‘Not to do any evil; to cultivate good; to purify one’s heart – this is the teaching of all the Buddhas.’

The Buddha taught to all classes, conditions and types of men and women; and, indeed, all beings.
