The Art Of Release. . .

One of the hardest things we do as human beings is hold on.

We hold onto old arguments, past mistakes, broken relationships, missed opportunities, and expectations about how life should have turned out. We carry these burdens day after day, often without realizing how heavy they’ve become.

The Buddha taught that attachment is one of the primary causes of suffering. That doesn’t mean we shouldn’t love deeply or care about others. It means we suffer when we cling to things we cannot control.

Imagine trying to hold water in a tightly closed fist. The harder you squeeze, the faster it slips away. Open your hand, however, and the water can rest there peacefully.

Life works much the same way.

Letting go isn’t giving up. It’s accepting reality without fighting it.

When we release resentment, we make room for peace. When we forgive ourselves for past mistakes, we create space for growth. When we stop trying to control every outcome, we discover that life often unfolds in beautiful and unexpected ways.

A helpful practice is to ask yourself, “Is this thought helping me live well today?”

If the answer is no, perhaps it’s time to gently release it.

This doesn’t happen overnight. Letting go is a practice, not a single decision. Some days we’ll need to release the same worry over and over again.

That’s okay.

Every breath offers another chance to begin again.

As you move through your day, notice what you’re carrying. Is it serving you? Or is it simply weighing you down?

The freedom you’ve been searching for may not come from gaining something new.

It may come from finally letting something go.

Peace and Love, Jim
