Enough. . .
There’s this quiet voice that shows up sometimes. You know the one – it tells you to keep going. Keep pushing. Keep improving:
“Not yet.”
“Not enough.”
“Just a little more.”
To be fair… that voice has its place. It’s part of what drives us. Part of what helps us grow, create, build. But there’s another side to it. If we’re always listening to that voice… we’re always somewhere else. Always chasing the next version of things. The next milestone. The next outcome. The next moment where everything finally feels complete.
And in doing that… we miss what’s already here. I had a moment recently… nothing big, nothing planned.
Just sitting, not working, not thinking about what was next and just being there. Its actually quite hard to do (like meditation), but what you get it; even for a second – everything feels full, complete in some way.Not perfect, but complete.
It wasn’t because anything changed – it was because I stopped looking for something else.Buddhism points us back to this again and again. Not to stop growing, but to stop overlooking. To recognize that this moment… as it is… doesn’t need anything added to it to be valid.
There’s nothing missing from right now. Even if things aren’t finished and we have more to do, or moment can still stand on its own. Sometimes, that’s enough and the majority of the time it’s more than enough.
“He who knows that enough is enough will always have enough.” — Lao Tzu
