Middle Base. . .
The Middle Way is one of Buddhism’s most profound teachings: avoid extremes of indulgence and denial, and instead seek balance. Often we think of this as a lofty spiritual principle, but the Middle Way lives most vibrantly in our daily lives—especially at home.
In the home, balance looks like nourishing our bodies without excess. It looks like resting without slipping into laziness, working without tipping into obsession, enjoying pleasure without becoming trapped by it. The Middle Way calls us to moderation and mindfulness in the rhythms of ordinary living.
When tensions arise with family or roommates, the Middle Way invites patience and compassion. Not giving in to anger, not suppressing it either, but acknowledging emotions and responding with care. Balance is not about perfection but about steady adjustments.
Even in simple household tasks—cooking, cleaning, resting—we can embody the Middle Way. Neither rushing through chores with irritation nor avoiding them out of neglect, but approaching them with presence and balance.
The Buddha’s teaching is not abstract. It is practical, meant to guide us through the very fabric of daily living. When we practice the Middle Way at home, we create spaces of harmony, patience, and joy.
Peace and Love, Jim
