Open and Honest. . .
To live openly and honestly is not merely a choice—it is a deep and enduring practice. In Buddhism, truthfulness is not reserved for speech alone; it radiates into our thoughts, actions, and very way of being. Honesty is not about harshness or bluntness—it is the gentle but firm alignment of our inner life with the outer world.
When we live openly, we remove the masks of fear, pride, and pretense. We no longer have to shape-shift to please or impress, nor do we need to hide our doubts or struggles. In this freedom, we create space for authentic connection—with others and with ourselves. Openness welcomes life as it is, not as we wish it to be. It acknowledges imperfection without shame and embraces the simple beauty of being human.
Honesty, too, is a quiet strength. It asks us to see clearly—even when truth reveals our mistakes or misunderstandings. But within this clarity is peace, because honesty frees us from the exhausting effort of pretending. The honest mind is not troubled by fear of exposure or contradiction; it stands firm like a tree rooted in the earth.
Living an open and honest life does not mean revealing every thought or speaking every opinion—it means acting in harmony with what is true, gentle, and beneficial. It means showing up to life without deception, meeting each moment as it is, and letting our words and deeds reflect the quiet sincerity of the heart.
Today, may we each take a small step toward such a life—open, honest, and awake to the beauty of truth.
Be truthful. Be open. Live gently in your truth.
Peace and Love, Jim
