In the past few days, I’ve heard so many disheartening stories of people showing their worst (like fighting over toilet paper at Costco). I’ve also heard uplifting, inspiring stories of people reaching out to help others, like a young couple who are running errands for their elderly neighbors who have no family nearby.
Your inner life is the realm of your private thoughts and values. Your emotions, fantasies, spirituality, capacity to love, desires, and sense of purpose. In other words, your inner life is who you are on the inside. It is where you deal with your emotions, your degree of self-awareness, your sense of clarity about life, and your capacity for calm.
Our perception of our reality is based on our beliefs. Our beliefs are the lens we see the world. When we wear an orange lens, everything would have a tint of orange. Whatever bit of orange that’s out there would become magnified. On the other hand, even if there’s no orange in some places, we would see orange in them, because that’s the base color of our lens.
We need to experience something directly in order to really learn what it’s about. This is wisdom, as opposed to knowledge much like you’d acquire in a class at school, a parrot-like type of learning that serves as a nice basis for establishing the necessary foundation for certain larger tasks, but which can serve little real use elsewhere particularly in advancing your well-being.
