The First Warming. . .
There’s always that one day – the first warm day where winter finally lets go. You feel it immediately. People act differently, conversations are more engaged and the world feels like it’s embracing a new moment.
I had one of those days recently. Nothing special, Just the sun on my face, a little extra time outside, and this quiet realization, I’ve been holding onto things I don’t need anymore.
Winter has a way of doing that. It makes us contract, protect, and hold our course. But warmth invites something else. It invites release. Not in some grand, dramatic way, but a soft loosening.
Maybe it’s a grudge you’ve been carrying.
Maybe it’s pressure you’ve been putting on yourself.
Maybe it’s the idea that you’re behind somehow.
What if you’re not behind? What if you were just in a different season? The first warm day doesn’t ask you to be different. It just reminds you that change is already happening. So today, let something go, not because you have to. But because you can.
The warmth isn’t just another season it’s a reason and a metaphor for change. As the sun makes ice melt, so can kindness and understanding cause struggles, mistrust, and hostility to evaporate.
Peace and Love, Jim
