True Nature. . .

Starting something new like a buddhist practice can seem daunting if not overwhelming, but its much easier than you might think and at its core Buddhist teaching are pretty straight forward.

A Buddhist practice can be viewed as the trainings and or skills at the highest levels of understanding which are ironically quite simple:

  1. wisdom,
  2. calmness
  3. discipline.

Regarding our many anxieties about life, living and starting something new we need to remember the three basics enemies or states that will allow us ease on our path. These are:

  1. observe,
  2. relax,
  3. let go.

Observing will develop your wisdom (seeing what is). One day you might note that you create that anxiety by yourself. Isn’t that thrilling?.. You create your both your suffering and freedom from that suffering with your own efforts!

Relaxing and letting go will help you drop that habit. Probably it’s a habit of inner division, inner struggle, maybe self-punishment…

With practice, you will see what to do.

The most important things in my opinion are:

  1. Practice sincerely. Clearly realize that it’s your own wish and your own understanding that you manifest any moment of your practice. Sincere practice is incredibly powerful. People who practice tens of years and see no awakening most likely lack direct contact with the depth of their heart; or their methods and teachers are somehow lacking.
  2. Find a method of constant practice. Meditation, walking or other self focused activity for example.

The rest will come naturally, from your true nature.

Peace and Love, Jim
