Always Growing. . .
I have often spoke on wisdom and in many cases consider it the “holy grail” of ones buddhist practice if not life itself. But can wisdom be challenged as a concept or do we simply redefine what wisdom means as we march through time and space?
Challenging conventional wisdom can be a powerful way to awaken oneself out of mundane habits and moments. But how do you do it without compromising your practice or making others feel inferior? Here are some effective strategies to help you question the status quo and spark meaningful conversations.
The first step to challenge conventional wisdom is to identify the underlying assumptions that support it. What are the common beliefs, norms, or practices that are taken for granted in your moments? How do they shape the way you think, act, or communicate? How do they limit the potential for innovation, diversity, or growth? By asking these questions, you can uncover the gaps, biases, or flaws in the conventional wisdom and expose them for review.
The second step to challenge wisdom is to seek evidence and logic to support your alternative perspective. You need to understand that you are challenging your own personal opinions, preferences, and emotions, as well as reasoning. You need to understand how perspectives can and should change in order to create more value, insight, and solutions than the conventional wisdom.
The final energy to challenge conventional wisdom is to keep learning and evolving as a buddhist. You need to understand that your moments are not a final or definitive thing, but a starting point for further inquiry, experimentation, or improvement. You can do this by updating your perspective with new evidence, logic, or examples and by acknowledging your limitations, mistakes, or uncertainties. You can also use feedback, criticism, or challenges from others as opportunities to refine, revise, or expand your perspective and to discover new possibilities, perspectives, or solutions.
