Difficulty. . .

It’s easy to love those who agree with us, who smile back and make life feel smooth. But real compassion begins where comfort ends — in the presence of difficult people.

The Buddha taught that everyone who crosses our path is a teacher. Those who frustrate us are teaching patience. Those who trigger us reveal our attachments. Those who hurt us show us where we are still holding pain.

Loving the difficult doesn’t mean approving harmful behavior. It means seeing beyond it — recognizing that behind anger, fear, or cruelty lies confusion and suffering.

To practice love in these moments is to choose understanding over reaction, forgiveness over resentment. It’s not about changing others; it’s about freeing ourselves.

So the next time someone tests your peace, take a breath. See the human beneath the noise. Love them, not because it’s easy — but because it’s how you stay free.

Peace and Love, Jim
