Enough. . .

We live in a world that constantly whispers, “more.” More success, more possessions, more likes, more recognition. The cultural narrative insists that contentment is always one step away—just beyond the next purchase, achievement, or experience. Yet Buddhism invites us into a radically different perspective: the practice of enough.

Enough is not resignation or settling. It is not laziness or lack of ambition. Rather, it is a conscious recognition that peace does not come from acquiring more, but from appreciating what already exists. When we pause to notice the food on our plate, the roof over our head, the relationships we already hold, we discover that enough has been with us all along.

This doesn’t mean we should never strive for improvement or growth. Growth is part of life. But growth without balance becomes greed, and striving without mindfulness becomes suffering. The practice of enough keeps us rooted in gratitude, even as we pursue progress.

The Buddha reminded us that craving is the root of suffering. Craving blinds us to the richness of the present moment and convinces us that life is incomplete. Enough, on the other hand, liberates. It transforms the ordinary into the extraordinary. It teaches us to sip tea slowly, to enjoy laughter fully, and to realize that happiness isn’t postponed for the future—it is accessible now.

Today, take a breath and whisper softly to yourself: This is enough. I am enough.

Peace and Love, Jim
