Mirror, Mirror. . .
In our modern world, beauty is often framed in terms of appearance—what we wear, how we look, how youthful we seem. It is wrapped in comparison, fleeting trends, and often unattainable standards. But in the teachings of the Buddha, beauty takes on a very different shape—one that is timeless, universal, and rooted not in the surface but in the spirit.
Buddhist beauty is not concerned with symmetry or fashion. It arises from within—born of kindness, mindfulness, and wisdom. When we sit with ourselves in stillness and begin to untangle the knots of ego, fear, and craving, we uncover a gentle radiance. It is not loud or boastful. It is the quiet glow of one who is at peace.
A mind free from anger is beautiful. A heart that forgives easily is beautiful. A person who meets others with compassion rather than judgment carries a beauty that no mirror can reflect.
This beauty does not fade with age; it grows. It does not depend on the approval of others; it arises from deep acceptance of the self and the world. Buddhist beauty is the peace in your breath, the grace in your walk, the patience in your response.
Let us practice this beauty. Let us cultivate it not with cosmetics or filters, but with clarity, love, and truth. Each act of mindfulness, each moment of compassion, each step on the path adds to this inner radiance.
In seeing the beauty of all beings, in treating each moment as sacred, we begin to embody what the Buddha taught: that true beauty is the unfolding of our awakened heart.
Today, let your beauty shine—not from your reflection, but from your presence.
Be kind. Be aware. Be beautifully you.
Peace and Love, Jim
