Outside Pain. . .
We often don’t know what to do when others are in pain. We want to help, to fix, to say something wise. But sometimes, the greatest act of compassion is simply to be there.
When someone suffers, your quiet presence is enough. You don’t need to carry their pain; you just need to witness it — with care and without judgment.
In Buddhism, this is called karuna — compassionate empathy. It’s the heart’s natural response to suffering. You feel it when someone’s tears move you, when a stranger’s struggle touches your soul.
The key is not to turn away. Pain shared is pain lightened. Presence shared is love in action.
So when others hurt, don’t rush to fill the silence. Sit with them. Let your stillness say, “You are not alone.” That is the beginning of healing.
Peace and Love, Jim
