Sacred Ground. . .

Many of us long for the extraordinary—travel, success, spiritual breakthroughs. Yet Buddhism whispers a gentle truth: the sacred is not hidden in the rare or distant, but in the ordinary moments of daily life.

Washing dishes, folding laundry, or sitting in traffic may feel mundane, even frustrating. But when approached with mindfulness, these tasks transform. The warm water on our hands, the rhythm of breath while walking, the chatter of voices in a crowded place—all of these can become gateways to presence.

Zen practice often emphasizes “chop wood, carry water.” It reminds us that awakening is not something separate from life’s daily work. The profound is found in the simple, when we bring full attention.

Ordinary days become sacred when we stop rushing through them. Instead of treating life as a series of obstacles to overcome, we can treat each moment as a chance to practice awareness and gratitude.

The Buddha’s teachings do not ask us to escape life but to enter it more fully. Every moment—ordinary or not—is an invitation to practice mindfulness, compassion, and presence.

The extraordinary is always here, hidden in plain sight. Today, slow down and notice the sacred ground beneath your feet.

Peace and Love, Jim
