The Teacher. . .
We often think of Buddhism as something we study or something we add to our lives—like a class, a meditation, a philosophy. But in truth, Buddhism is not separate from life. It is life. Every breath, every joy, every disappointment is part of the teaching. The Buddha did not offer us an escape from life—he offered a lens through which to see it more clearly.
Understanding that life is Buddhism means realizing that our daily experiences—pleasant or painful—are not in the way of awakening. They are the way. We learn patience when stuck in traffic. We learn compassion when caring for a sick loved one. We learn impermanence when plans fall apart. The path is not made only of incense and silence—it’s made of messy kitchens, hard conversations, and changing seasons.
This perspective changes everything. When we understand that life itself is the teacher, we stop resisting reality and start learning from it. We become less obsessed with how things should be, and more curious about what they’re showing us right now.
Ask yourself today: What is life teaching me? What can I see more clearly, feel more honestly, or release more gently?
The teachings are always here—not hidden in scriptures but unfolding in the quiet, intimate details of your life. When you begin to see life through that lens, the ordinary becomes sacred, and every moment becomes part of your awakening.
Peace and Love, Jim
